4 Fun Summer Activities That Involve Beach Towels
There's no reason to complain about boredom this summer, as long as there are beach towels nearby. These four activities are loads of fun for everyone. So grab your beach towel off the closet shelf and head outside!
- Game 1: Beach Towel Volleyball -
What you need:
2 beach towels
8-10 water balloons (minimum)
Set-Up:
- Form two teams and position them on either side of the volleyball net.
- Divide each team into pairs and give each pair a towel.
- Instruct each partner to pick up their end of the towel by two corners so that the towel spreads out the long way between them.
How to Play:
Choose one pair of partners to go first. Place a water balloon on the centre of their towel. They must propel the water balloon into the air and over the net by lifting the towel together. The team on the other side of the net has to catch the water balloon and send it back over.
Scoring:
If the balloon hits the ground before a pair of partners can catch it, the other team gets a point. Getting the other team wet is a bonus.
- Game 2: Musical Beach Towels -
What you need:
1 towel for each player
Radio or CD player with beach music
Set-Up:
- Spread out all of the towels around the room, leaving space in between them. (If you play on the beach, spread the towels out on the sand.)
- Remove one towel.
- Ask the players to get into a straight line.
How to Play:
Start the music and direct the players to begin to walk in a circle around the towels, staying in line. After a few minutes, stop the music. Each player must race to find a towel to stand on.
Scoring:
The player without a mat is eliminated. Remove one more towel. The game continues until one player is left. That is the winner!
- Game 3: Tic-Tac-Towel -
What you need:
1 large beach towel
Four long pieces of ribbon
Set-Up:
- Create a tic-tac-toe board with the ribbon. (You may even choose to sew the ribbon onto the towel permanently.)
- One player should gather five shells and the other player should gather five rocks.
How to Play:
The players take turns placing their shell or rock into one of the squares of the tic-tac-toe board. The first player to get three in a row in any direction is the winner!
- Game 4: Flip the Towel -
What You Need:
2 beach towels
2 teams, each with 4-6 players
Set-Up:
- Divide the players into two teams.
- Lay the beach towels down on the floor face-down. All of the members of each team must stand on their towel at the same time.
How to Play:
Each team must work together to turn their towel over so that it is face up, no body parts may touch the ground. The first team to flip their towel over is the winner!
These four beach towel activities will keep you entertained for quite a while. In between rounds, everyone can take a dip in the water and rest on their towels until it is time to play again.
