Towel Storage Ideas

Finding a place to put all of your household towels can be a challenge, especially if you live in a small home. However, with a little creativity, it is possible to store your towels in ways you may never have imagined.
Dresser Solutions
Consider putting a bedroom dresser in your bathroom. It may seem unconventional, but if you remove the drawers it will give you a unique way to hold your towels. An added bonus? It will provide easy access. No more yelling from the shower for someone to hand you a towel. Just reach over and take one out.
Hanging Around
Why not try an original storage idea that works even better than a towel rack or over-the-door towel holder. Attach a vintage wine rack or a stack of decorative baskets above the toilet. Just roll the towels and slide them inside. Not only will you save space, you may start a trend. Chances are, your friends will be tempted to give it a try because it looks so pretty.
Rack ‘Em Up
A multiple-tiered door towel rack provides space for a plethora of towels. Another idea? Line up three magazine racks in a row on the floor, and stack the towels inside vertically. Choose magazine racks that match your bathroom’s style—wooden, wire, even stainless steel.
Not Just for Flowers
Add a window box to your bathroom but skip the flowers. Instead stack your towels in the box. It works for solid towels, striped, and all different kinds of designs. Create a colour palette for an indoor towel garden. You may even want to try towel origami before placing the towels inside.
No Waste of Space

Sometimes you have to work with what you are given. Take advantage of the empty space over the bathroom door. Install a simple shelf—even a piece of painted wood will work. Then keep your towels up top and out of the way.
Bar None
You probably dry your towels on a towel bar on the back of the bathroom door. Save room by installing two towel bars on the back of the door vertically. Roll your towels and stick them one over the other and you will probably be able to fit more than you have.

Of course, there’s nothing wrong with keeping your towels in the linen closet if you have one. Fit tons of towels by lining the shelves with baskets first.

What’s the best way to fold your towels?
To fold in a square for stacking:
  1. Place the towel on the floor or a table in front of you. The long sides of the rectangle should be at the top and bottom. In other words, the longest side will be closest to you.
  2. Fold the towel in thirds lengthwise by bringing each side to the middle.
  3. Smooth the towel and fold it in half.
  4. Fold it in half one more time to form a square.
To roll for stacking:
  1. Place the towel on the floor or a table in front of you, with the longest sides at the top and bottom.
  2. Bring the two bottom corners to the two top corners, folding the towel in half.
  3. Starting on the left side, roll the towel until you reach the right side.
