Choose Your Own Adventure by Choosing the Perfect Towel

by Lifeboat Admin ,
I must admit, the best part of a hot shower is the soft, fluffy towel waiting to embrace you. We use towels every day of our lives, whether it’s to dry our bodies or just our face and hands; using a towel is an intimate daily ritual. A good towel not only feels incredible to the touch, but it also lasts a long time. At Allurtex.com, we’ve got all the towels you need. When you’re searching our website for the perfect towel, it’s important to consider the following:
1. Absorbency: Absorbency of your daily towel is the most important factor. A great bath towel is very thick, soft and absorbent. This towel dries you from head to toe when you step out of the bath. The weave of loops in your towel (pile) determine how absorbent it is. You want a towel with thick loops and you want lots of them. The most absorbent towels are made from Egyptian cotton. These towels are most commonly found in luxury hotels around the world.
2. Drying Speed: It’s a fact: Thinner, less expensive towels dry faster. Thicker, more plush towels take a longer time to completely dry. But they also feel a million times better on your skin. Sure, you may be saving a bit of time in the dryer with a cheaper, thinner towel, but these towels wear easily too, which will result in replacement towels every few months.
3. Size and Weight: Towels are measured in GSM units (grams per square meter). This is your towel’s fabric density and it’s very important. Towels lower in GSM are lighter, thinner and usually less expensive.  These towels ar

e scratchy and unpleasant. Towels with a higher GSM are of a superior quality and are much more expensive, but often worth the price because they will several years.
4. Fabric: When buying a quality towel, choose cotton. Cotton is a far more porous material than synthetic fibers like polyester or other synthetic blends. It’s smarter to buy towels made from 100 percent cotton. It doesn’t really matter what kind of cotton your towel is made of but more the amount of pile, or loops, that make the difference. The texture of the weave is important, but tactile preferences are specific matters of taste. Some people want fleecy, others prefer a faster drying towel.
At the end of the day, everyone has their own preferences when it comes to towels. There are plenty of factors to consider when buying towels. You may find that the best way to make everyone happy is to have a variety of different towels that range from the ultra-luxurious Egyptian cotton ones to the thinner, but faster drying towels that are more no muss, no fuss. At Allurtex.com we have the largest range of towels to satisfy your needs from voluptuous bath towels to simple hand towels. The choice is yours; however, it’s a less difficult choice to make when you apply the right knowledge to it.

Bath Towel Buying Guide

by Lifeboat Admin ,

Bath Towel Materials
Although most towels are made of cotton fibres, the softness and absorbency varies depending on the type of towel. Three of the most popular towels on the market are:
Egyptian cotton towels: Egypt produces the high-quality cotton which is used to make Egyptian towels. These towels are durable, breathable and very absorbent. Towels made of Egyptian cotton typically cost more but also last longer than other towels.
Pima cotton towels: Pima cotton is grown in the south-western United States from the same plant as Egyptian cotton. Pima cotton towels are strong and absorbent.
Turkish cotton towels:  These towels are woven of premium cotton in Turkey. The extra-long fibres are very absorbent and extra soft. Turkish towels have a great reputation in the hospitality industry.

Towel Sizes
We use a wide range of towels in our daily lives, each with its own purpose. The following chart includes the average sizes of these towels followed by their definitions.
Washer
30cm x 30cm to 40cm x 40cm
For hand, face, and body washing in shower and bath
Hand Towel
40cm x 60cm to 50cm x 70cm
For drying hands or for decorative use
Bath Towel
68cm x 132cm to 70cm x 134cm
For drying body after shower or bath
Bath Sheet
80cm x 150cm to 100cm x 170cm
Extra-long for drying body after shower or bath
Towelling Bath Mat
50cm x 80cm to 60cm x 85cm
Absorbs water on the floor from shower or bathtub
Beach Towel
75cm x 86cm to 100cm x 180cm
To lay on or dry off with, on the beach or at the pool

Towel Weight
Towel fabric is weighed in grams per square meter (gsm), which is the towel’s density. Most towels are 300gsm to 900gsm.
300gsm-400gsm:  These towels are thin and light. Their weight makes them suitable for gym use or for keeping in the kitchen because they dry quickly.
400gsm-600gsm:  Medium-weight towels can be used for bath towels and beach towels. The heavier the towel, the softer and more absorbent it is.
600gsm-900gsm:  Most of the premium towels are in this weight range. They are very dense and heavy. They absorb more but also take longer to dry.

Towel Construction
Different yarns are used to make towels. A towel’s construction correlates with its quality.
Combed cotton: During construction, combed bath towels are actually combed to remove short, uneven threads and debris so that the longest threads are left behind. The result is strong, luxurious towels.
Ringspun cotton: Both short and long fibres are twisted together to create the fine, smooth yarn of ringspun cotton. These towels are plush and durable.
Terry cloth: Extra yarn is woven into the larger thread loops of terry cloth. The additional material makes terry cloth towels one of the most absorbent materials.

Other definitions:
Twist: The number of twists per cm of yarn. A low twist means the towel is plusher while a high twist means the towel is stronger.
Two-ply: A second layer of yarn is used in two-ply, resulting in a strong, dense, and absorbent towel.

Towel Storage Ideas

by Lifeboat Admin ,

Finding a place to put all of your household towels can be a challenge, especially if you live in a small home. However, with a little creativity, it is possible to store your towels in ways you may never have imagined.
Dresser Solutions
Consider putting a bedroom dresser in your bathroom. It may seem unconventional, but if you remove the drawers it will give you a unique way to hold your towels. An added bonus? It will provide easy access. No more yelling from the shower for someone to hand you a towel. Just reach over and take one out.
Hanging Around
Why not try an original storage idea that works even better than a towel rack or over-the-door towel holder. Attach a vintage wine rack or a stack of decorative baskets above the toilet. Just roll the towels and slide them inside. Not only will you save space, you may start a trend. Chances are, your friends will be tempted to give it a try because it looks so pretty.
Rack ‘Em Up
A multiple-tiered door towel rack provides space for a plethora of towels. Another idea? Line up three magazine racks in a row on the floor, and stack the towels inside vertically. Choose magazine racks that match your bathroom’s style—wooden, wire, even stainless steel.
Not Just for Flowers
Add a window box to your bathroom but skip the flowers. Instead stack your towels in the box. It works for solid towels, striped, and all different kinds of designs. Create a colour palette for an indoor towel garden. You may even want to try towel origami before placing the towels inside.
No Waste of Space

Sometimes you have to work with what you are given. Take advantage of the empty space over the bathroom door. Install a simple shelf—even a piece of painted wood will work. Then keep your towels up top and out of the way.
Bar None
You probably dry your towels on a towel bar on the back of the bathroom door. Save room by installing two towel bars on the back of the door vertically. Roll your towels and stick them one over the other and you will probably be able to fit more than you have.

Of course, there’s nothing wrong with keeping your towels in the linen closet if you have one. Fit tons of towels by lining the shelves with baskets first.

What’s the best way to fold your towels?
To fold in a square for stacking:
  1. Place the towel on the floor or a table in front of you. The long sides of the rectangle should be at the top and bottom. In other words, the longest side will be closest to you.
  2. Fold the towel in thirds lengthwise by bringing each side to the middle.
  3. Smooth the towel and fold it in half.
  4. Fold it in half one more time to form a square.
To roll for stacking:
  1. Place the towel on the floor or a table in front of you, with the longest sides at the top and bottom.
  2. Bring the two bottom corners to the two top corners, folding the towel in half.
  3. Starting on the left side, roll the towel until you reach the right side.

Exercises You Can Do with Just a Towel

    by Lifeboat Admin ,

It is possible to get in shape without all of the expensive equipment on the market. Instead, all you need is a simple towel, although it is helpful to use one that is strong enough to handle your workout. The benefits of working out with your towel include targeting different muscle groups in an effective manner and adding variety to your exercise routine. Always warm up before exercising to protect yourself from strains and sprains.

    Resistance Exercises

When performing the following exercises, you will use your own body for natural resistance.

    Exercise 1: Towel Raises
Stand with your legs shoulder-width apart, knees slightly bent. Hold the towel stretched tightly between your hands up over your head. Bring the towel all the way down to your knees, creating resistance. Lift the towel back up over your head. Repeat for 30 seconds and take a short rest before completing two more sets.

Exercise 2:  Standing Towel Pull Ups
Stand with your legs shoulder-width apart, knees slightly bent. Hold the towel stretched tightly between your hands up over your head. Bring the towel down to your collarbone, creating resistance. Lift the towel back up over your head. Repeat for 30 seconds and take a short rest before completing two more sets.

    Exercise 3: Towel Squats
Stand with your legs shoulder-width apart, knees slightly bent. Hold the towel stretched tightly between your hands up over your head. Squat slowly, bringing towel down all the way in front of you. Stand back up, and raise the towel back over your head. Repeat for 30 seconds and take a short rest before completing two more sets.

    Stabilizing the Core Muscles

This set of exercises will build your core by helping you to balance on a slippery surface. Perform 3 sets of 8-10 reps for each exercise, with a 45 second break in between each set.

    Exercise 1: Slide and Squat
Fold towel into a square and place it on the ground. Place your right foot on towel, feet shoulder-width apart, knees slightly bent. Put weight on your left leg as you slide your right foot out all the way and back in—keeping your left leg still. Bend at the waist and lean body forward so arms are almost touching the floor as you do the exercise. Repeat on each side.

    Exercise 2: Ab Slides
Bend over, putting your hands on the towel in front of you, keeping your knees at a 90 degree angle. Slide towel forward with your hands so that your body is completely stretched out with your arms on the floor above your head. Slide back into your starting position.

    Exercise 3: Ab Slides- Variation
Stand with your feet on the towel. Squat down so your hands reach the floor in front of you. Slide legs back until you are in a push-up position. Slide legs back into standing position. Repeat.

    Exercise 4: Chest Towel Slide
Get into a push-up position, with towel folded lengthwise on the floor in front of you. Hands should be shoulder-width apart on the towel. Bring hands together, crushing towel together, using your chest muscles, simulating the dumbbell fly.

    History of the Towel

    by Lifeboat Admin ,
Towels have a long history in civilization. They have been given separate names by various cultures. For example, the towel was named the sarung in Asia, the kikoi in East Africa, and the kanga in Africa. Here we will take a look at the history of Turkish towels, Egyptian towels, and towels in the United States.

    Turkish Towels
The Turkish towel has been around for hundreds of years in different forms. Turkish towels have always been an important part of Turkish social life, including the ceremonial bath of a bride before her wedding. The Turkish towel was actually invented in Bursa (now Turkey)which was the capital of the Ottoman Empire in the 14th century.
By the 17th century, the Ottomans had pushed to make the towel more intricate. Women in the palace wanted weavers to make stylish designs with flair. The Hammam towel, also known as the Pestamel, was made of cotton or linen and then embroidered by hand. The towels were woven on hand looms by women in the Black Sea and Aegean regions.

People wore towels in the bath and in Hammam - the traditional steam rooms. Some people also wore towels wrapped at the waist to keep their clothes from becoming contaminated when working. The Hammam was very absorbent and stayed light even when wet. Hammam towels could be wrapped around the body easily. In the 18th century, weavers made the first looped towel called a havlu, which means “with loop.”

Today, Turkish towels are woven on advanced looms in distinctive colours and patterns. The style depends on the region where it is made. Materials include linen yarn and cotton yarn. A silk pestamel is called a Fota.

    Egyptian Towels
Egyptian towels can be traced back to 3000 B.C., when they were first used by farmers in north-western India. In order to make the towels, cotton fibres were spun into yarn. Then the yarn was made into a lightweight textile. When the Egyptians discovered specialty cotton growing along the Nile River, it quickly became a popular material for both clothing and bedding.

    Early Use in America
Hundreds of years ago, people did not bathe as often as they do now. Towels were very expensive and took a lot of effort to make. At first, it was only wealthy women who purchased towels, ordering hand and facecloths in magazines and catalogues.  When the textile industry became mechanised in the 19th century, it made towels more widely accessible.

Absorbent terry cloth was used to make the towels. It was available as material for women who wanted to make their own towels. They would buy it by the yard, cut it to size and hem it up. Eventually weaving factories mass-produced terry cloth towels and they could be found in every home.

Now people use many types of towels on a daily basis. For example they use hand towels to dry their hands after washing, wash cloths to bathe, and even beach towels for drying off on holiday. Most homes have so many towels that they must look for new ways to store them.

How Often Do You Wash Your Sheets?

    by Lifeboat Admin ,

Between dust mites, dead skin cells, and bodily fluids, bed sheets take a lot of wear and tear. The only way to keep them clean is by washing them on a regular basis. Yet in a recent UK survey by YouGov, only 35 percent of 2,000 Brits admitted to changing their linen once a fortnight. For the record, experts actually recommend washing your sheets once a week, or at minimum once every other week.

When you purchase high quality sheets, you can rest assured that they will last longer. For example, Classico Commercial-quality sheets are 50 percent cotton and 50 percent polyester. The flat sheets are made to handle the demands of continuous laundry processing. They come in single, queen and king sizes, to ensure you get the right fit.

Here are the steps involved with washing your own sheets properly:

    Step 1: Preparation

Wash your sheets separately, without any other dirty laundry. The reason? If you include clothing in the load, it can damage the sheets and cause pilling. Before laundering sheets, pre-treat stains.

Never overload the machine, even if the tub looks big enough to hold a huge load. An overloaded washing machine traps dirt and the detergent can’t get to it. In addition, when sheets don’t have room to move, they can end up wrinkled. It is also important to distribute sheets evenly so that the washer does not stop mid-cycle because of an obstructed centre agitator. An overloaded machine can make a terrible noise, and it often takes a lot of finagling to get it to work again.

    Step 2: Settings

Fill the washer with water before adding detergent, and allow it to dissolve completely. Modern washing machines do not require the same amount of laundry detergent as older machines do. Newer detergents are also more concentrated. If you add too much detergent, it can wear out the fabric. Your sheets can then tear or rip easily. Therefore, it is best to use ½ the detergent that you usually use.

Take note, if you have a top-loading or front-loading washer that requires high efficiency detergent, expect there to be fewer bubbles. For white sheets, add ¼ to ½ cup of lemon juice to the washer.

    Step 3: Drying

Remove wet sheets from washing machine right away. If you leave them in the washer too long, they can attract mold and mildew which is difficult to remove. Put wet sheets in the dryer on a low or medium setting, as a high setting can weaken fibres and lead to tearing. Do not remove the sheets from the dryer until they are completely dry. Then fold them immediately to prevent wrinkles.

Tip: Washers get dirty from repeated cycles. Detergents and grime can build up easily. To keep your washer clean, run a cycle of water and 1 cup of vinegar once a month. After the cycle, wipe down the washer and open the door so it can dry naturally.
